The
topic that I have chosen for this project is how does the media influence society
and how does it affect the society. The topic my group chose for this project
is how does media affect the public? The topic I chose relates to the topic
because it describes the media’s influence. In other words how the media gets
inside our head and cause us to respond in a specific way. I developed this
question because from not finding sufficient information on my previous topic
which was how does the media affect the topic of immigration. As I was on the
library catalogue looking for books for my previous topic, I noticed that there
were several books on the media’s influence and how society is affected. I
decided I would just change my topic. I found some new information on the
internet for my research topic. As I was picking information from my book, I have
learned new things about the media that I did not already know. After not being
able to find enough information on my previous topic or books that had relevant
information, I had to completely revise my research topic. In relation to my
topic, I will be discussing the media’s influence on society. I will talk about
pros and cons of media influence. I will also talk about how the media’s
influence causes the society to respond certain ways about a topic or how it causes us to
change our perspective due to the media’s point of view.
I really like your question. It will help yall find out what you need to know about your subject and I think it will be very very helpful. I also had to completly revise my research topic too. I did not choose a good book the first time so it was extremely hard.
ReplyDeleteI dealt with the same topic in English 1101 class last semester. You can even get more in-depth and explain how the media influences our view and perception on things. I too had to change my topic around so I could find more information. Good Luck with your paper and finding information.
ReplyDelete"How does the media influence society?" is not a good research question. As you said, there are several whole books written on that topic. How are you going to answer that question in a 3-4 page paper? You need to narrow your topic down to something manageable, not something that you could write several books about.
ReplyDeleteWhen skimming through those books, how do they break the topic down? Do they talk about specific issues, specific types of media, or what? The purpose of the pre-search homework was for you to spend some time looking through encyclopedias and online to get an idea of what information is available on your topic, because that's a good way to figure out how to narrow down a huge topic like this. But you can do even more pre-searching to get this to a manageable question!
Trying to write a 3-4 page paper on a question like the one you proposed is going to be harder than it would be if you have a more manageable question... And it will be harder to get a decent grade, since you can't do more than scratch the surface of the topic if you have an overly broad question -- which looks like you didn't put any effort in at all and didn't do any real research. Putting the same amount of effort in with a narrower, more focused question is going to look like you put more thought into it.
